Drawing inspiration from a world of femininity and bygone eras including Old Master paintings and lavish tapestrys, florals are back for the new season, with a dramatic, darker twist.

For a high octane outfit, look to the floral suit, but opt for softer fabrics and silhouettes for a romantic feel – take a cue from the street style set and throw over a blazer or leather jacket for a dose of French girl cool. Accessories are another easy way to incorporate this trend into your look, giving outfits an eye-catching pop of print.

Less saccharine than previous seasons, pastels shades are key for AW19. The style set fell for liilac looks, dusky pink shades and pops of mint and iced blue, with suiting and flowing trench coats creating the most impact that embrace one shade from head to toe.

Flowing, sheer layers were contrasted with technical fabrics and sporty details such as pastel sneakers to ensure the look is less ‘cutesy’ and more cutting-edge. Sweetie shades not your thing? Opt for warm greys and subtle peach tones for a low-key take on the trend.

Is there any more proof that utility is one of the must-have trends for AW19 than an army of sartorial stars rocking the fashion–meets–function look on the streets of Paris?

We saw head-to-toe looks with boiler suits in ligthweight, fluid fabrics switched up with plenty of pockets and functional detailing. Trench coats were worn loose and thrown over shoulders or nipped in at the waist with sports-inspired belts, while accessories came in the form of bum bags slung over the shoulder or boxy perspex totes.
