Microtrends | She's Beige

Fashion’s latest obsession is a spectrum of beige and it’s anything but ordinary.

The Insider

Call it what you want - biscuit, café au lait or even contemporary oatmeal, but beige truly whet the appetites of the style elite during this Fashion Week Season. The colour has shaken off its bland reputation and now is the time to be beige. The neutral shade was seen across the SS19 shows - namely Dior, Tom Ford, Fendi, Balmain and Tibi - and it’s proven to have a timeless appeal. Worn wisely, this palette looks modern, sophisticated and expensive. We show you how.

More is more

You can never have too much of a good thing, especially when it’s beige. Maximise your silhouette with layers of different caramel and sandstone tones and you’ll nail the gold standard of trends from this Fashion Week Season. The shows at London Fashion Week illustrated this perfectly, namely Ricardo Tisci at Burberry. He breathed new life into the traditional trench coat with a modern reworking, complete with chain embellishments no less, and teamed them with contrasting silk pieces. For the Tisci touch, be sure to use layers with varying textures in tonal shades. Leather, pleats, denim, tweed, satin; you name it - we want them all!

Get Nude

You heard us correctly. Truly immerse yourself in the beige trend and dress yourself head-to-toe in nude. Leave little skin uncovered in place of oatmeal fabrics for a fashion-forward take on understated.  To reap maximum rewards, be sure to use one shade only and team with elegant gold hardware and metallic logos. As to be expected, the Max Mara catwalk at Milan Fashion Week was the forerunner of this microtrend. Models took to the runway in luxurious coords - headscarves, jumpsuits, coats, and skirts (worn over trousers) were all in synch. Tom Ford played the matching game too - a key look featured a floaty maxi dress, delicate lace underskirt, matching headscarf and shoes, all in cream. Don’t forget, those in the know are those in the nude.

Sheer appeal
Your skin is beautiful - show it off. Sheer nude clothing proved to be a big hit this spring. The Dior show at Paris Fashion Week, with dreamy tulle skirts and see-through sporty crop-tops, was a seasonal highlight. The Agnona show at Milan Fashion Week also deserves a mention, where organza suits meant business. With translucent garments keep necklines high and hemlines low to ensure you are looking chic. To score even higher in the fashion stakes, team these delicate pieces with chunky modern accessories, such as a statement sneaker, for a sports-luxe-meets-fantasy fusion.
