PREPPY SPORTS

Collegiate Cool

One of the biggest menswear trends to have emerged in recent years has been the modern preppy look, driven by uber-cool labels such as Aimé Leon Dore who have blended sporty streetwear with classic elements of tailoring, all wrapped up in a reference to 60s collegiate style. In short, we love it. Think iconic varsity jackets by Only & Sons, slim tailored blazers by Gant, cotton rugby shirts by Marc O'Polo, and sleeveless vests by JOOP!, all combining in a sporty way. Layering is key to this look, and don’t be afraid to clash patterns either - a striped rugby top beneath an Argyle vest, bookended with glossy track pants and sneakers is a recipe for success.

GREAT OUTDOORS

Functionality Gets An Upgrade

Combining an earthy autumnal colour palette with a diverse variety of textural fabrics, one of our favourite trends of the season saw functional outdoor dressing get a major style upgrade. From classic wax jackets by Karl Lagerfeld Men to quilted puffers by Lacoste, and multi-pocket technical utility jackets by Jack Wolfskin, these outdoors essentials came with layered looks on the runways, creating a rich panoply of textural elements that help to give this trend depth and character. Utility staples such as cargo pants, brushed-cotton button-down shirts and hiking boots are the glue that sticks this trend together, while the chunky rollneck sweater - beautifully crafted at Gant and Marc O'Polo this season - reinforces the tactile sophistication of our new favourite trend.

DRESSED-UP DENIM

Denim Smartens Up

Even a menswear genre as timeless as denim cycles through trends, and while only last year the runways were embracing oversized shapes and distressed looks, it appears that denim has graduated into a more mature and smarter style category if the shows of Prada, Louis Vuitton and Prada are anything to go by. The ubiquitous denim shirt is less of a ‘western’ style this season, with dressier cutaway collar options by Seidensticker and Eterna leading the way. Jeans have also taken a turn for the more elevated, with the likes of Levi's and G-Star producing deliciously slim fit styles in lightweight denim cloths. These are great styled with textural layers, such as a suede jacket by Strellson or a tailored corduroy jacket, bookended with some sleek suede Chelsea boots.

CHECKS

The Joy of Checks

Tartan patterns originated in the 19th century in the Scottish Highlands, crafted by weavers to represent specific clans. Since then, they’ve remained largely unchanged, proof that great style never dies! This season, designers have really been pushing the boundaries of plaid, blowing up checks or using bright colours to give them an urban look. Check shirts by Petrol Industries and Hechter Paris are a great way to introduce pattern to your autumn wardrobe, but for the bolder among you, check trousers by the likes of Strellson and Jack & Jones are sure to make a strong statement. Overshirts and fleece-coloured jackets have always been willing receptacles of check patterns and this season is no different. Alternatively, you can make a subtle acknowledgement of the trend by opting for flashes of check in a cap, hat, or scarf.

LONG-LINE COATS

Tall, Dark, and Handsome

If you want to look statuesque and elegant this season, then the long-line coat will be your best friend. These classic menswear silhouettes were all over the AW24 runways and rightly so because they are statement garments that really give your looks a stamp of stylish authority. Whether it’s a traditional trench coat by Gant or a belted wrap-around wool jacket by Guess, these long-line styles create masculine silhouettes with a tonne of texture. They cry out for this season’s key footwear trend - the chunky leather boot, with some great renditions at Ara and G. K. Mayer Shoes. Keep your colour palette muted with tones such as black, grey, taupe, tan and beige creating an understated aesthetic that oozes class and sophistication.
