Every season tends to have a colour story and so it is with AW24, which has fully embraced the moody romanticism of Fall tones. Illustrious brands such as Ferragamo, Dries Van Noten, and Saint Laurent all doubled down on autumnal colours such as aubergine, olive green, taupe and mustard. Rich and textural, they were largely applied to strong tailored silhouettes, making for a powerful sense of femininity. From a stunning oxblood double-breasted suit by BOSS to a supremely elegant khaki green belted overcoat by JOOP!, the moody tones extended into sharp midi dresses, chunky knitwear and mini skirts. Complement these with vintage-inspired shoes and knee-high boots by G.K. Mayer Shoes, and finish the look with a sleek leather clutch for a smorgasbord of texture.

Instant Checks Appeal
They might hail from the Scottish Highlands, but this season’s checks are designed for elegant urban living as brands from Chloe to Burberry via Acne Studios experimented with head-turning tartan patterns. While the colours on the runways were understated, the silhouettes were big and blown up, with oversized double-breasted coats, and maxi skirts and dresses offering some of the season’s strongest looks. Of course, if you’re pattern shy, you can add a slither of tartan by way of a scarf, but the real fun is had in head-to-toe checks, whether clashing or coordinating. Look for neutral colours and moody Fall hues to which you can add a bright pop of pink or yellow to create a stunning layered look.

The key elements to the trend this season are denim, elevated knitwear, leather and trenchcoats, so there is something for everyone. Light Up in Electric Eveningwear
Molten metallics and shiny embellishments were lighting up the runways at the likes of Alberta Ferretti and Ulla Johnson this season, as eveningwear took on a seductive shiny tone. Striking midi dresses and red-carpet-ready ball gowns all came with a dose of metallic magic, accompanied by statement necklines and leather stilettos. Gold, silver, and bronze midi dresses bring an electric brand of confident femininity to eveningwear looks, underscored by glittering ankle boots. These looks are all about maximising metallic textures, so contrasting them with leather stilettos, feather frills, or faux fur trims is a good way to turn up their volume. There’s never been a better time to shine.
STATEMENT SKIRTS
These Skirts Bring All The Fun
After many seasons of maxi and midi dresses stealing the limelight, 2024 looks like the year of the skirt, but not just any skirt. On the runways of Tom Ford, Proenza Schouler, and many others, it was the statement midi skirt that was making the headlines, and it came glittering, twinkling, and sparkling. Shop the trend for less, from shiny sequins and sparkly details by Desigual, to fringes and tassels by Only, these skirts are not only eye-catching, but a breeze to style, too. Think barely-there sleeveless tops by Marc O'Polo, fine-knit crew neck jumpers by Joop! Strellson, and dressy satin shirts by Seidensticker - just keep your tops muted to allow the skirt the spotlight it deserves. Pointed sling-backs by Kennel & Schmenger are our favourite way to bookend this trend, while a statement clutch by Karl Lagerfeld is the cherry on the cake.
