THE BUTTERFLY MAZE
Dive into the scents of Mediterranean vegetation, sub-divided into large ‘patches’ of plants adored by insect pollinators—lepidoptera in particular. A sort of outdoor butterfly house, where you’ll see countless species with incredible colours and markings. Butterflies are particularly abundant in summer, when temperatures rise and flowers bloom. However, a few species, such as migratory ones, make an appearance in spring and autumn. Hummingbird hawk-moths, thought to be a good luck omen, often land on verbena; painted lady butterflies prefer nettle; peacock butterflies like marigolds; Euplexia opts for lavender; Diachrysia mint and Plusia sage. Celastrina is drawn to lilacs.
